Amber learned how to read from others reading to her. Her mom would read to her every night when she was younger. She was always excited for her mom to grab a book from the bookshelf. Many people read for different reasons. Some read for enjoyment or learning. Reading helps give people more knowledge and learn more about different things. In order to be a good reader, one needs to find a genre of books that interest them, and is curious to read. Reading is easiest for Amber when she chooses a book that interests her very much. She also will be able to read better if she is in a quiet area and has time to read. The hardest part of reading for Amber is getting a book that truly interests her that she will read it and understand it. Sometimes for Amber, it takes a long time to finish reading a book. Amber knows that people shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that is what she does sometimes. She also will read the small summary that is in the book or on the back of book. Amber looks for suspense or mystery in a good book when she is choosing a book to read. At home, Amber reads from mainly short stories, or articles. Amber feels that reading is a requirement for succeeding in life. Reading will help people to have a better view on life.
Amber's ability to write became natural to her. Whenever she has a good idea about a story she will write it down. She is/was always excited about writing essays in school. People write for many reasons. Some may write for enjoyment or explaining a subject to people. In order to write well, the writer needs to think deeply about the subject/purpose of the story or piece. Whenever writers have an idea in their head, they need to write down. Those ideas will help the story or piece become a more developed writing. Amber loves to write research papers and short stories. She is always wanting to learn more about different things. She did a research paper on how music affects people's brains, and got a lot of good information. Amber loves short stories because whenever she has an idea, she can easily write a short story on it. Amber's ideas of what to write about mostly comes from what she enjoys. Amber loves music, so that is why she did a research paper on it. Suggestions from teachers, students and her family help to write better, and figure out more ideas. At home, Amber writes everyday. She may write "to do lists", texts, ideas, or emails. Amber feels really happy with what she writes. She loves to write and is very proud when she gets an "A" on a writing assignment in school. Amber knows that she will never be a perfect writer, but she will continue writing to get better and keep improving.
