This week we started the Pecha Kucha project. The question that I decided to research is How does someone deal with being ignored and/or lonely? I have enjoyed working on that question. I have learned that some people may become lonely because of death, or losing someone they love. Some people may deal with loneliness very well, while others may not. I have also learned that having someone that has a similar situation with you can help you to cope with loneliness and get on with life. I am looking forward to hearing the Pecha Kucha presentations from the class. https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/loneliness

This week was very interesting. We continued to read the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. We focused on Jim, Huck, The Duke, and The Dauphin. We learned what each one of those characters' goals are in life. We also learned more about themselves. When I first started reading this book, I felt like Huck didn't care for people as much as he does now in the book. He feels bad that the Wilks sisters were swindled. He then wants to get there money back. I think that when we continue to get farther in the book, we will learn more about the characters and how they change from the beginning of the book. I have been enjoying this book, but it's a little bit confusing at times, so I hope I can understand it better. http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-the-Book-You-Are-Reading This week we focused on the book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Now that we have been reading more of it, we learned more about how Huck and Jim are lonely. In the chapters that we read this week we learned a lot about Jim. We learned that Jim's family was taken away and sold as slaves. Jim is very sad and wants his family back. We learned that Jim needs/wants Huck, his family, and freedom. The time that this book takes place people are against black people. Learning how people talked and reacted about black people makes me very sad because everyone should be treated the same. I hope that in the end of the book, Jim has his freedom. http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/race_color.cfm This week we started reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. While reading the book, we are focusing on isolation and alienation. The question that I am researching is How does someone deal with being ignored and/or lonely? Huckleberry Finn is very lonesome, at one time in the book he says he wishes he was dead. Huckleberry was so lonely that he wanted to smoke. Huckleberry's dad locked him in a cabinfor 3 days. Huckleberry was very scared and pretended that someone robbed the cabin and killed Huckleberry. Being alone can change people's actions and how they view life. I hope to learn more about isolation and alienation. http://www.calmclinic.com/anxiety/isolation-loneliness This week we focused on 2 words, alienation and isolation. We learned a lot about what those words mean. Discussing alienation and isolation makes me think about how tough people's lives can be. We read a poem called "The Raven", which was very interesting. I learned when people are lonely they may imagine hearing voices or sounds because they want don't want to be so lonely. Thinking about alienation and isolation makes me ask how does someone deal with being ignored and/or lonely? I hope to learn more about the answers to that question. http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/inside-the-mind/emotions/isolation-effects.htm This week we finished reading The Crucible. After reading and watching the play, it made me think that power really changes people. Some may only think of their perspective on things, so they don't listen to others. We are starting to do a group essay on The Power of an Individual. While thinking of what our thesis should be, my group had many of ideas about how power affects people. We had a good discussion about the ways people can change when granted power. I am excited about how our essay is going to turn out. I think this essay will help us to really dig in to what power does to people. http://www.nytimes.com/1982/11/09/science/how-does-power-affect-the-powerful.html?pagewanted=all This week we worked a lot on The Crucibles. Reading more into the play makes me more interested in how the girls would feel after many of the people being hung. Personally, if I lied about something and then people died because of that I would feel so bad/guilty. This week the creative writing was more interesting. I really enjoyed doing the "Heartbeat line". Choosing a line from another piece of creative writing to write a different piece was really fun. I really liked it because that line makes you think more of what it means. The line I chose was "She wants to be loved, but she is hurt". I took that line from a poem that I wrote, and used it to write another poem. Both poems are very much different. I wasn't here on Thursday, but I looked at the Creative Writing that was scheduled on the weekly plan. "Unexpected Inspiration" was the creative writing. I think that is a great idea for creative writing. Sometimes other people's words can help one's self to come up with many ideas. I really enjoy creative writing, so I am always looking forward to the different creative writing ideas. http://www.creative-writing-now.com/short-story-ideas.html I love reading and watching plays. Plays are very fun and interesting to me. This week we focused on The Crucible. We read and watched a lot of it. It's very interesting to me that many people are being accused of witchcraft, but they have nothing to do with it. To help our understanding of the play we did a music connections sheet. That really helped me to think of how people felt in the play. The music connections also helped me to think deeply of what lyrics really matched the most to the play. Last year I did a 10 page essay on how music affects the brain, so I know many things that happen when people listen to music. Music truly helps the brain to process more thinking. This week for creative writing I wrote about leaving. I really enjoyed that because leaving can bring back many feelings. I love doing creative writing; I can write whatever comes to mind. I can't wait for the new ideas for creative writing. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1877042814005710 This week seemed to go by forever, but it was very interesting. I learned a lot about witchcraft. I never knew that people would torture others to see if they are witches. I learned that many innocent people died because of the horrible tortures. I really enjoyed watching the beginning of The Crucible. I also learned a new way of doing creative writing. I had to write 100 words that are only 1-syllable words. I really enjoyed doing that because it made me think of what words to use. Sometimes I would start writing a 2-syllable word, then realizing I need to choose a different word. One word was "everyday", I decided to write one day. I think I will do more of that type of creative writing. One of the things I still need to work on is getting started on creative writing. Sometimes it takes a little time for me to think of a topic to write about. Overall, this week has been very fun with all the things I learned. I look forward to reading and watching more of The Crucible. http://www.dailywritingtips.com/creative-writing-101/ This week was very enjoying and I have learned a lot about writing. One of the major things that I learned was I need to think about my thinking. I had to write 2 paragraphs of how I think I am as a reader and a writer. I also did some creative writing. I really enjoyed that because I could write whatever I wanted to write. While writing, I was struggling about what to write. It was challenging to write about my thoughts. What helped me to continue writing was to be relaxed and write what comes to my mind. I hope to get more creative thinking. This week's ideas of writing helped me to dig deep in my mind. I really understood the ideas, and hope to get better at writing about myself. http://www.sparringmind.com/creative-thinking/ |
